What it does

Built for the messy reality of academic writing.

01

Eight major styles

APA 7, APA 6, IEEE, Chicago 17, MLA 9, Vancouver, Harvard, Turabian — toggle between them and the AI re-formats every entry consistently.

02

In-text + bibliography together

Convert just the reference list, just the in-text citations, or both at once. Output stays internally consistent.

03

Typography handled

Italics on journal titles, en-dashes in page ranges, sentence vs title case, DOI prefixes — the small things reviewers notice are correct.

04

et al. threshold per style

APA 7 uses et al. for 3+ authors in-text; Chicago author-date for 4+. The right threshold is applied automatically.

05

Mixed source types

Handles journal articles, books, book chapters, conference papers, theses, datasets, preprints, and websites in one pass.

06

Markdown or plain text out

Output preserves the formatting cues you'll need when pasting into Word or LaTeX.

How it works

Three steps. No setup. No template hunting.

  1. 01

    Paste your references

Any source format — Mendeley export, BibTeX, hand-typed Word list. We parse what you give us.

  2. 02

    Pick the target style

Click one of the eight style chips. Optionally narrow to in-text only or bibliography only.

  3. 03

    Copy the formatted output

Drop it back into your manuscript. The AI keeps the original ordering so cross-references don't break.

Example

Messy citations → clean APA 7 output in moments.

Common questions

Quick answers before you start.

  • What input formats work?

Any plain text. BibTeX, RIS, Word-pasted text, copy-paste from Google Scholar. AI handles the parsing.

  • Does it check accuracy?

For accuracy checking (missing refs, uncited entries), use the Citation Checker tool. Citation Manager focuses on reformatting.

  • Can I get a DOCX download?

Yes — the output includes a Download as Word (.docx) button with proper formatting preserved.

  • Is my text sent anywhere?

Your text is sent to the Anthropic Claude API for processing and is not stored. See the Privacy Policy for details.

  • Will it invent citations?

No. It only reformats what you paste. If a field is missing in the source, it stays missing — flagged in the output.

  • What about non-English titles?

Preserved as-is. Diacritics, transliteration, and capitalization rules are respected for the target style.
